about

For the past 17 years, the Fort Worth Weekly has been celebrating the wonderful talent in our backyard via our Music Awards, in which readers vote for their favorite artists in genres as diverse as rock and hip-hop, jazz and folk.

As part of the awards every year, we throw a massive FREE daylong concert in the West 7th corridor. Featuring 48 bands -- all nominees and all from Fort Worth (or close enough) -- our Music Awards Festival is the largest celebration of Fort Worth music in the world. This year's event is Sunday, June 28, at eight venues in the West 7th corridor. Quaker City Night Hawks, The Unlikely Candidates, Son of Stan, Pinkish Black, Ronnie Heart, Jetta in the Ghost Tree, Wire Nest, Jake Paleschic, and Toy Gun are just some of the great local acts slated to perform. Admissions is, as always, free.

The festival also will mark the official release of Frequencies, Vol. 6, our latest annual charity comp CD featuring new or previously unrecorded tracks by select nominees, including Son of Stan, Blank-Men, Shake the Moon, Duell, Chris Watson Band, and more, all recorded live at Eagle Audio on the Near Southside. Proceeds from the $5-a-pop sale of the discs will go toward this year's charity sponsor, Lena Pope, an 80-year-old Fort Worth nonprofit devoted to family counseling and early childhood education. Through the sale of our compilations of the past five years, we’ve raised nearly $8,000 for our assorted charity sponsors.

See you June 28.
